SouthboundF is a bass music DJ and producer residing in upstate New York who plays drum n bass and dubstep, as well as other genres under the aliases Perlenkette (techno) and D:Stroya (150).
Her style focuses on crowd awareness, tailoring her crates to the dancefloor and optimizing her ability to build sets and mix on the fly with precise preparation. With almost 20 years of experience, she is capable and confident in any atmosphere and timeslot.
Discovering a love for music in the early 2000's Utah rave scene, Daphne Holden learned the basics of DJ'ing on vinyl with UK hard house records before becoming absorbed in dnb thanks to influential Salt Lake City locals such as Drumlojik, DJ Julliette and Merryl, as well as international talents like Dieselboy, Evol Intent and Pendulum. As the sound of dubstep grew, she began incorporating the genre into her sets and moving between tempos to create more dynamic energy, and the format remains a staple of her style.
Experimenting with other genres (aided by the switch to digital platforms) led to an interest in techno, first with minimal and later with harder subgenres. Not content with just DJ'ing, she also delved into production with Reason to foster creativity and fundamental understanding of music, although it remains a hobby with no major releases as of yet.
In 2020, after playing various gigs in the Salt Lake City and Seattle areas, she joined her close friends Rodan and Soda Pop in their creation of the c0ldstorage Twitch channel, livestreaming minimal drum n bass on the monthly program Below Zero. Given creative control of the show, Below Zero would become a showcase for Utah local dnb DJ's to be featured alongside SouthboundF herself. She would also join Rodan 'secretly' under the Perlenkette moniker, playing hard techno b2b.
The alias D:Stroya focuses on 150 BPM sets with no set boundaries on genre and is largely experimental.
Her other interests are heavy metal, video games, politics and LGBTQ+ activism.
